Fossils from Solnhofen - Fishes

 

Ascalabos voithii Caturus furcatus

Beside Crustaceans, fishes are also widely common in the Solnhofen limestone, unless we do not consider the floating crinoid Saccocoma sp. or ammonites. Fish found in the limestone can be classified in the following orders: Chondrichthyes (like sharks), bony fishes, Chondrostei and Coelacanthiformes. Till now, approximately 70 fish species are known.
